On the evening of 13 September 2017, Secretary of the Navy Richard V. Spencer spoke to U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, and civilian industry leaders at a welcome aboard reception held at the National Museum of the United States Navy. The Naval Historical Foundation coordinated the event.

Secretary Spencer highlighted three priorities for the Navy and Marine Corps: people, capabilities, and processes, emphasizing the critical importance of partnership between the Navy and industry leaders.

A special thanks to our honored guests at the event, including Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps General Glenn M. Walters, USMC, Vice Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Bill Moran, USN, and Naval History and Heritage Command director Rear Admiral Sam Cox, USN (Ret.).
